Incopotence Now
Hope and I had the most amazing experience at Pep Boys tonight. So amazing, in fact, that I felt the need to share it with all my beloved Ljay readers. In trying to find a way to describe the event, I found my rhetorical skills lacking (I'm no softside). So, I've decided to simply transcribe what I remember in hopes that it will do justice. First, a bit of set-up: Around 6:00 last night, Hope dropped off her car at Pep Boys to get an oil change and so they could check one of her tires. They seemed pretty busy. The woman behind the counter said that they couldn't get to it tonight, but she could leave it now and they would do the job first thing in the morning. Fine. Fast forward to earlier this afternoon. Hope never got a call from Pep Boys but that's nothing new. They have a bad habit of not calling when work is done. So we went back around 4:00 pm (surely enough time for a simple oil change.) Mobile Leprechaun, the national phenomenon.
If you aren't aware yet, My station did a story about people seeing a "Leprechaun" in a tree out near Prichard. The clip has become a bit of an internet sensation. It was on youtube.com and ebaumsworld.com So, here they are. The story. The shirt.and yes, The song.Unfortunatly, I had nothing to do with this story. But it makes me proud to be a part of local news. | | Sunday, March 5th, 2006 | | 10:35 pm |
Crash? What the fuck? Am I the only one thinks its over-rated? It was the only film nominated that I didn't want to win. | | Wednesday, February 8th, 2006 | | 7:44 pm |
Hey, This Is Important!
Alright peeps. Listen Up! I recently joined the NBC 15 Relay for Life team. It raises money for the American Cancer Society. Now, what does this mean for you? You get to give me money! But it doesn't have to be entirely selfless. For those of you that donate at least ten dollar ($10). You get entered into a chance to win a gift certificate to Ruth's Chris. Let me say that again. Ruth's Fucking Chris. It's either for a "dinner for two" or $100. I can't remember at the moment. It's not much of a hassle to donate just go here if you have a credit or debit card. Or you can just give me cash. But, and this is important, I need to have it by Monday. If you donate, make a reply to this entry just so I know. I'll put your name on a ticket and you'll be entered. If you don't live in Mobile you are more than welcome to donate anyway. You may not get the food. But you will get my undying gratitude (Cash Value = $1.35) Thanks again, Justin | | Wednesday, February 1st, 2006 | | 10:56 pm |

Sent to everyone at WPMI by our GM.
A sympathetic Pres Bush Donald Rumsfeld is giving President Bush his daily briefing. He concludes by saying: "Yesterday, three Brazilian soldiers were killed in an accident." "OH NO!" the President exclaims. "That's terrible!" His staff sits stunned at this display of emotion, nervously watching as the president sits, head in hands. Finally, the President looks up and asks: 'How many is a Brazillion?' | | Tuesday, September 27th, 2005 | | 11:29 pm |

I got a promotion at work. Now, instead of being an editor/photographer (technically videographer), I'm just a photographer. And while that may not sound much better, my currect position is considered a training position with the expectation of moving to one or the other. It means a raise, better hours, and a little more cred at the station which is nice. However, the circumstances for my promotion aren't so nice. One of our camera guys (or photogs as they're called in the biz) got canned. The official reason is "Reckless use of company equipment," but no one knows of anything he did that fits that description. Plus, there have been photogs in the past that have dented cars, dropped cameras (on their multi-thousand dollar lenses), etc. who have not been let go. Plus, plus, he never got any warnings or anything, which is, like, standard practice in Corporate America. It may have something to do with his supposed inability to get along with one of the reporters. But if that's the case, that's pretty shitty. Luckily I am on good terms with said reporter. On another subject, I was thinking about the episode of the Simpsons where Marge is in the musical version of "A Streetcar Named Desire." During the final musical number, the chorus sings, "A strangers just a friend you haven't met." Man, that's funny. | | Friday, September 2nd, 2005 | | 2:08 am |
Today on the news, we covered a story that really bothered me. Apparently there was this shelter set up in Daphne, the Nicholson Auditorium I think, and now that everyone local has left, all that remained were refugees from New Orleans and Mississippi. This auditorium happpend to be located in a fairly affluent neighborhood and several of the residents lobbied the mayor and haed them moved to the much older, and already pretty crowded Robertsdale Collusium. There was a protest to the moving. According to one of the protesters she got a call from a neighbor asking her to call the mayor so they could get rid of those "sketchy looking people." That's just...so....fucking...terrible. For all those people I have one thing to say. Get used to it. No one has really talked about this, but Mobile and Baldwin County are about to get a major population spike. There are millions are people displaced by this storm. They've got to go somewhere. The people in these shelters are going to have to get jobs if the can't go back home for months. They'll enroll their kids in schools here, etc. Anyway, I don't rant often, but damn that's cold. | | Tuesday, August 30th, 2005 | | 8:54 pm |
Is it Monday or Tuesday?
It's been a strange couple of days. I've been working strange and long hours. Earlier, I seriously did not know what day it was. We lost power at the station Monday morning which sucked. We go it back around noon today. I've got to go in tomorrow at 4 a.m. Not that I'm complaining. I can't after spending hours looking at footage from New Orleans and Biloxi. But there is one good thing about all this. There was a story on CNN today about the impact Katrina will have on gas prices. It totally used footage that I shot on friday. It was just a few shots of Gas station lines here in town, but I was pretty surprised. Anyway, I've got to sleep now. Zzzzz | | Friday, August 26th, 2005 | | 7:38 pm |
Stolen from Purpmonkee
1. Pick ten of your favorite movies and choose one still from each movie. 2. Post those stills in your journal. 3. Have your friends guess which movie goes along with each screen still. ( in no particular order ) | | Wednesday, August 17th, 2005 | | 9:07 pm |
Well, it finally happened. After months of limping along after being brutally man-handled by my asshole former roomate, my computer died. Not so much died as refusing to stay on long enough to do anything. I finally took the bugger to Best Buy. According to them the only thing that will save my 'puter is a Wondows XP start-up disk which I don't have. So this is a desperate plea to all of my E-friends. IF YOU HAVE A WINDOWS XP DISC, PLEASE LET ME BORROW IT! I won't need it long. Just a few hours. It's my only hope. If this doesn't work. It's new computer time for Justin. Which might not be so bad, but I don't want to lose all my stuff on the old one. Screw you John Hill. | | Wednesday, July 20th, 2005 | | 12:24 am |
To all you Michael Bay fans out there
I have recently procured a pass to a special advanced screening of Michael Bay's latest opus the Island. Unfortunatly, my work schedule prevents me from utilizing it. It's today (Wed. the 20th), 7:30 at Wynnsong theater. If you're interested, drop me a line or give me a call. I hate a gem like this to go to waste. | | Thursday, June 23rd, 2005 | | 2:41 pm |

Em-fucking-ployment (Sorry for the length)
Chock another one up to the "It's not what you know, it's who you know" file, because without much experience or even submitting a resume tape, I now have a job at NBC-15 as a editor/photographer. AS you may remember, this last semester I took a Broadcast/Cable Management class taught by the general manager of NBC 15, who urged me to apply for a job at her station after graduation. After a couple of weeks of unemployed-sitting-around-watching-rerun s-of-Star-Trek:DS9-bliss, I sent them a resume. This was Friday. In addition I e-mail the General Manager, letting her know I had sent the resume and any help she couple provide would be appreciated. Well, help she did. On Monday, I got a call from Joe, the news director, asking if I wanted to come interview for a position later in the day. I went there and Joe was busy with some paper work so he passed me off to one of the camera guys who loaded me up with one of the standard issue 50 lb. news cameras, took me outside and instructed me to shoot some footage or the parking lot and "make it look interesting." I tried and about 10 minutes later he came back and he looked at the footage, giving me comments on what I could have done better. Then the camera guy passed me over to the chief editor who I followed around for a couple of hours as he edited footage for the 6:00 news. At some point during the following, the editing guy asked me if I wanted to stay and fill in for another of the editors who usually works the 4:00-10:00 shift, but was off that day. I had to turn him down because I was meeting Thomas and Kevin at the Jag-TV office at 6:00 to make DVD copies of "Only the Lonely" for film fest submissions. He then asked me to come in around 9:00 so could work one of the studio camera during the 10:00 news. I stayed until 5:30 and as I was leaving, Joe (remember, the guy I went there to talk to) was on the phone. When I came back at 9:00, he was gone. I stayed and did the camera thing. All in all, it was a little overwhelming, but not too bad. I assumed someone would call me the next day, but alas, nothing. So this morning I e-mail Joe again. Assuming my best "Humble Applicant" voice, I thanked him for the opportunity to work with everyone and said if he wanted to do a follow-up interview, I was available. Well, not two hours later I get a reply saying. "Ok. When do you want to start?" He went on to detail pay, benefits and (gasp) vacation days. It's all rather exciting. So now, the challenge is to not get too swept up in the job. I still want to try for grad school. Now that I don't have to worry about paying the bills, I can start studying for the G.R.E. and working on a writing portfolio. Wish me Luck. Justin Current Mood: optimistic |
